Emerging as a British girl group with the energetic and visually appealing style reminiscent of the Spice Girls and Girls Aloud, Parade first appeared on stage toward the end of 2010 by taking part in a charitable event in London, which led to them serving as the opening act for Shakira's concerts across the United Kingdom. Some members brought prior experience to the table, such as Emily Biggs, who had started out in the pop ensemble Hope that participated in the fourth series of The X Factor, along with Sian Charlesworth, whose previous outfit City Girls achieved a modest British chart success. Completing the lineup alongside Lauren Deegan, Bianca Claxton, and Jessica Agombar, the act secured additional prominent gigs at the beginning of 2011, among them support slots on the road with Alexandra Burke, Ellie Goulding, and Shayne Ward, before issuing their first single “Louder” during March. Achieving a Top Ten entry upon release, this track opened doors for the follow-up U.K. success “Perfume,” which reached the Top 40 within the subsequent three months.
