Biography
Peals comprises William Cashion from Future Islands alongside Bruce Willen from Double Dagger, forming an experimental duo centered on improvisation. In contrast to the high-energy new wave and punk rock of their primary projects, the pair pursues a quieter, introspective sound, evident in atmospheric loops, field recordings, and delicate rhythms throughout the 2016 release Honey.
The two musicians established the project in their native Baltimore during the first months of 2012, at first operating under the name Believers. Following the launch of a site that let visitors freely rearrange and remix the sixteen components of “Furniture,” the duo joined Thrill Jockey, which issued the debut album Walking Field in 2013. They subsequently toured across the United States and Canada, prioritizing performances in art venues. Early in 2015 they issued the cassette Seltzer, documenting both a live set inside the clock room of Baltimore’s Bromo Seltzer Tower and a selection of spontaneous home recordings. Their second album, Honey, appeared on Friends Records in 2016 and included a contribution from the Smashing Pumpkins’ James Iha; Thrill Jockey reissued the record in 2020.
