Piero Piccioni

Among Italian composers for cinema, few have matched the sheer output of Peiro Piccioni. From the early 1950s onward he distinguished himself through inventive scoring for the screen, earning apt comparisons with Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicola. Throughout that decade he worked under the Americanized pseudonym Piero Morgan; his dramatic music for La Tempesta in 1958 then opened the door to steady Hollywood assignments. Piccioni’s scores freely blend jazz, lounge, easy listening, and post-romantic orchestral textures, supplying the soundtrack for projects that range from low-budget horror pictures to sweeping romantic epics.
