Paris Jones, a grounded R&B performer, first built her reputation through songwriting before transitioning into a solo career. Significant strides came in 2015, when she secured writing credits on Chris Brown and Tyga's "B****es N Marijuana," Boosie Badazz's "All I Know," Charlie Puth's "Left Right Left," and Ty Dolla $ign's "Guard Down" and "Finale." She also issued her understated major-label debut, the EP Walking Around Pools, as her initial release on the Atlantic roster. The next year brought further co-writing work for Kevin Gates on "Excuse Me," Fantasia on "No Time for It," and additional artists, alongside the arrival of her full-length album Rare. That record highlighted her closer kinship with figures like Jazmine Sullivan and Snoh Aalegra than with other strains of modern R&B, centering mainly on everyday existence while keeping guest spots to a minimum.
