In the late 1990s the guitar-based pop group Polak coalesced around Bob Brown, Krzyz Fijalkowski (ex-Bardots), Pete Fijalkowski (ex-Adorable), Chris Parsons, and Matthew Sigley. The five-piece began releasing material by rolling out three singles in quick succession on Generic, each pressed in limited editions across 1998 and 1999. Those same tracks, augmented by a new version of the band’s debut A-side “2 Minutes 45” (which actually exceeded its stated length by a few seconds), were gathered into the 1999 compilation 3X3. Polak next aligned with the independent One Little Indian to issue the ironically titled Swansongs in 2000. Listeners drawn to Adorable’s Echo & the Bunnymen-influenced pop will find Polak an equally satisfying proposition.
