Biography
POPTONE brings together singer/guitarist Daniel Ash and drummer Kevin Haskins, both veterans of Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, and Love and Rockets, while adding bassist Diva Dompe, Haskins’ daughter, to the lineup. Their performances draw from the catalog of those earlier groups, placing particular weight on material originally recorded by Tones on Tail. The project marked Ash’s return to the stage after he had withdrawn from live work following Love and Rockets’ final concerts in 2008. According to accounts, the idea took shape in early 2017 when Ash dozed off while viewing online music videos and awoke to Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades.” The experience prompted him to contact Haskins about resuming performances, after which Haskins recruited Dompe. The resulting trio mounted a world tour and issued a live album under the POPTONE name that captured those concerts.
