Positive K

Born in the Bronx, Positive K first built underground visibility through scattered compilation tracks before his breakthrough. One standout was the duet "I'm Not Havin' It" with MC Lyte, which markedly raised his profile. Additional exposure arrived via a guest appearance on Grand Puba's debut album and the independent release of the Big Daddy Kane-produced single "Nightshift," both of which directly preceded his 1992 major rap hit "I Got a Man." Those steps led to the full-length The Skills Dat Pay da Bills, issued on Island's 4th & Broadway subsidiary, where Nation of Islam themes sat alongside gangsta-isms and pop-leaning cuts. Positive K simultaneously sustained his Creative Control label, signing and developing new acts.
