Biography
Emerging from the Armorial Movement under Ariano Suassuna’s leadership, Quinteto Armorial ranks among the leading ensembles to unite Brazilian classical music with popular and folkloric currents. Their performances adapted and presented Renaissance works from Brazil together with European medieval styles shaped by Northeastern folklore. Founded in 1970, the group’s original lineup was incorporated into the Orquestra Armorial de Câmara, which appeared in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In 1974 the ensemble received the APCA award from São Paulo’s Association of Art Critics and issued the album Quinteto Armorial -- Do Romance ao Galope Nordestino on Marcus Pereira. Three further recordings appeared before the group disbanded in 1980.
