Biography
Raging Slab revolves around frontman Greg Strzempka, who handles both vocals and guitar, and the group has carved out a distinctive Southern-rock boogie style colored by punk and metal leanings. A major contributor to the ensemble’s distinctive character is slide guitarist Elyse Steinman, whose role as a rhythmic foundation and occasional textural element stands out as atypical for that instrument. The lineup is completed by third guitarist Mark Middleton along with Alec Morton and Bob Pantella. Although the band’s sonic approach and inventive arrangements account for much of its appeal, inconsistent songwriting has limited its success, evident on releases such as the 1987 album Assmaster, 1993’s Dynamite Monster Boogie Concert, and 1996’s Sing Monkey Sing.
