Biography
Memphis vocalist Randy Brown possessed a profound vocal timbre that often proved entrancing along with an engaging performance style, yet major commercial breakthroughs and repeated chart entries remained beyond his reach. Sibling to William Brown of the Three Lads, he cut sides for Parachute and Chocolate City across the late 1970s and early 1980s, frequently rendering material penned by Homer Banks and Chuck Brooks, who likewise handled production on the bulk of the tracks found on Intimately and Midnight Desire. Brown’s only charting release, the 1980 single “We Ought to Be Doin’ It,” reached number 16 on the R&B survey. He maintained his recording activity, issuing further material as late as 1988 on Three-Way Records.
