Biography
Rhetta Hughes possessed solid yet unoriginal skills as a soul singer, appearing poised for greater recognition around 1969 after her cover version of the Doors' "Light My Fire" reached the R&B Top 40. Momentum proved elusive, however, as her follow-up track "Angel Man" failed to connect on the Aria label, returning Hughes to the supper club scene where she performed as an opener for comics including Bill Cosby.
