Having co-founded Boom Crash Opera with Peter Farnen in 1985, Richard Pleasance remained the band’s steadfast guitarist for an extended period. In 1990 he stepped away temporarily after developing tinnitus, whose persistent ringing made live performances impossible and thereby opened space for him to launch a solo career while recovering. His first solo album, Galleon, surfaced in 1991; its somber tone served as a meditation on a relationship that had recently dissolved. Although the single “Sarah (I Miss You)” attracted modest Australian radio play, the record itself drew scant notice. Following Galleon’s release, Pleasance formally ended his association with Boom Crash Opera. A second album, Colour-Blind, arrived in 1994 and reversed the earlier record’s outlook, instead celebrating the happiness he had found in his marriage. Beyond minor attention granted to the title track, this release likewise failed to register with a wider audience.
