Biography
A guitarist of considerable skill whose playing draws inspiration from his distinctive sonic approach, Ronald Muldrow has maintained a longstanding presence as a regular performer at Fifth St. Dick's club in Los Angeles. His initial significant professional engagement came when he supported the Staples Singers on their African tour. From 1974 to 1979 he performed in Eddie Harris' ensemble, followed by a brief period alongside Ronnie Laws; in 1980 he established his own trio before relocating temporarily to New York, where he took on various freelance work that encompassed a tour of Japan alongside Terumasa Hino. Eventually settling back in Los Angeles for good, he resumed his collaborations with Eddie Harris, and it was during a 1992 European tour with Maceo Parker that he first recorded as a bandleader, releasing Growing You on the Bellaphon label. Subsequent recordings under his leadership appeared on Enja and Kokopelli, as he further developed his abilities in improvisation.
