Biography
Although born in Kentucky, Ruby Winters grew up in Cincinnati and cut a string of lively soul sides for minor imprints from the late 1960s into the early 1970s, yet those releases never lifted her above regional recognition. Her first appearance on the charts came in 1967, when she paired with Johnny Thunder on a duet version of Jo Stafford’s 1954 single “Make Love to Me,” which climbed to number 13 on the R&B chart. Two further Top 20 singles arrived in 1969: “I Don’t Want to Cry” on Diamond and “Guess Who.” Later efforts for Polydor, Playboy, and Millennium throughout the 1970s produced little commercial response.
