The analog electronic quartet S U R V I V E, based in Austin, Texas, produces a startling and disorienting revision of vintage horror and sci-fi film scores together with experimental ambient music and minimal wave. Their catalog spans extended space explorations down to hazy lo-fi electro. Live presentations stand out as significant events, with the group having appeared alongside Goblin, Xeno & Oaklander, Lightning Bolt, and additional acts. Formation occurred in 2009 through Adam Jones (Troller, Thousand Foot Whale Claw), Kyle Dixon, Mark Donica, and Michael Stein, each a notable figure in Austin's highly productive synthesizer community. Light Lodge issued the debut EP LLR002 locally in 2010, soon followed in 2011 by the self-released cassette s000—later reissued by Holodeck as HD009—and LT019 on Living Tapes. Italian label To Lose La Track put out the 7" single "W115" in 2012, after which the self-titled debut LP surfaced on Mannequin Records. Cult status attached itself immediately, with multiple pressings selling out across ensuing years while the band's profile expanded. Monofonus Press, another Austin-based imprint, released the 12" EP MF064 in 2014. Two contributions to the 2014 action thriller The Guest soundtrack later appeared as a limited double-LP for Record Store Day in 2016. Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein scored the Netflix sci-fi/horror series Stranger Things, starring Winona Ryder, whose first season dropped in July 2016 to immediate widespread acclaim. That same month brought the announcement of a Relapse Records deal for the second album RR7349, which followed in September. Dixon and Stein's Stranger Things theme earned an Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music one year afterward. RR7387, containing RR7349 remixes by Justin Broadrick, Lena Willikens, and further artists, surfaced in November 2017, with the single "RR7400" arriving the next year.
