Biography
Born in Burbank, California, USA, Paul Sabu, son of actor Selar Sabu, has forged a thriving path as a vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, producer, and engineer for numerous prominent artists while also supplying material to many film soundtracks, even though persistent misfortune has hampered his independent releases. The Sabu group, anchored by bassist Rick Bozzo and drummer Dan Holmes, earned modest traction with its soulful hard-rock debut album, yet that record failed to register in the United States because Sabu issued a disco album concurrently on the Ocean label. He then concentrated on session work and shelved the band until Morocco, a Motown subsidiary, signed him to a deal. Performing as Kidd Glove, the lineup shifted toward a heavier sound that spotlighted Sabu’s vocals, reminiscent of a smokier Sammy Hagar, along with his guitar playing, but the album gained little ground and disappeared along with the label when Morocco folded. Sabu next enlisted Bozzo, keyboardist Dan Ellis, and drummer Charles Esposito to create the critically praised Heartbreak, which performed solidly until its label entered liquidation. An Arista songwriting agreement kept him afloat while he assembled his next band, Only Child. In 1995, after a ten-year gap, he issued a new solo album credited to Paul Sabu, drawing on contributions from ex-Baton Rouge guitarist Lance Boulen and additional musicians, thereby reviving attention for an artist widely regarded as a distinctive guitar talent.
