Biography
A Milwaukee psych-garage ensemble called the Shag—not to be mistaken for the Shaggs—scored a 1967 hit with the single "Stop & Listen." Although documentation on the band stays sparse, accounts confirm that its members had relocated to San Francisco by 1969, where they sharpened the psychedelic and Dylanesque dimensions of their material. Those recordings might have stayed buried without the intervention of Gear Fab, the Orlando reissue label that finally issued the album 1969 in July 2005. The company’s accompanying promotional copy singled out the record’s prominent flute lines and fuzz-guitar textures.
