Biography
Indie pop singer/songwriter Shalini Chatterjee launched her musical path in the late 1980s by handling bass duties for Madison, WI-based Kissyfish. Following her relocation to San Francisco, where she acquired guitar skills, she assembled Vinyl Devotion in 1993 and issued multiple acclaimed records on Parasol. A subsequent move to North Carolina prompted a reconstituted Vinyl Devotion lineup that delivered 1998's Floor Model, yet the ensemble disbanded before the year ended. Chatterjee then assembled a fresh group alongside legendary guitarist/producer Mitch Easter together with his former Let's Active collaborators Jon Heames on bass and Eric Marshall on drums. Released under the simple moniker Shalini, We Want Jelly Donuts appeared in summer 2000. Returning to the studio in 2003, Shalini and the band adopted a harder rock approach for the next effort, Metal Corner. During fall 2002 Shalini Chatterjee had already issued the Krautrock-influenced album Anneu'ed under the Econoghost alias. The band Shalini resurfaced in 2007 with The Surface and the Shine.
