Biography
Hailing from Tokyo, the group known as Shang Sang Typhoon, or SST, delivers a far-flung blend of sounds anchored in Okinawan roots. Banjoist Red Dragon guides the ensemble as it folds generous helpings of African drumming, reggae, Hawaiian guitar, and Latin American dance music into that foundation. Red Dragon maintains that this exploratory spirit stems directly from the longstanding eclectic practices of the kayokyoku tradition.
