Shiny Two Shiny

Emerging in the early 1980s from the remnants of synth pop outfit A Formal Sigh, Gayna Florence Perry and Robin Surtees launched the offshoot project Shiny Two Shiny. After A Formal Sigh’s brief run that featured a Peel Session, the pair reconvened to craft an energetic strain of synth pop marked by dark, stripped-down qualities. In their short existence the group produced only two notable releases: the 1982 extended-play single Halfway Across the Rainbow and the 1983 single Waiting for Us. Favorable notices from critics supported European tours, substantial radio play, and occasional television slots before the band quietly disbanded in 1984. Both members later pursued modestly received solo work, until the 2014 compilation When the Rain Stops gathered every known recording.
