Silver Synthetic, a quartet hailing from Louisiana, craft a sound that blends classic country-rock, pop, soft rock, and unhurried psychedelia into a relaxed, inviting mood one might mistake for a relic of the early 1970s, yet the group steers clear of mere retro imitation. Their initial offering arrived as the engaging four-track EP Out of the Darkness in 2020, followed the next year by an eight-song self-titled debut LP that maintained comparable standards while expanding the track count.

The project originated in 2017 when Chris Lyons, guitarist and vocalist for the New Orleans-based garage punk outfit Bottomfeeders, began composing material too mellow for that group’s fiercer style and more attuned to vintage pop, country, and psychedelic influences. Enlisting assistance from Bottomfeeders drummer Lucas Bogner to shape the arrangements, Lyons recruited guitarist Kunal Prakash, previously associated with JEFF the Brotherhood, along with bassist Pete Campanelli. As the songs developed, the four musicians gradually solidified into a cohesive unit, making their first live appearance in late 2018 at the opening event for a New Orleans record store. Growing local interest prompted them to ask friend Ross Farbe, known from the New Orleans indie act Video Age, to capture several numbers at their practice space. Those recordings reached Third Man Records personnel, who extended a contract offer. The label released the four-song EP Out of the Darkness in October 2020 to favorable critical notices, then issued the full-length Silver Synthetic in April 2021.
