German coloratura soprano Simone Kermes concentrates on Baroque and early Classical opera repertoire. Born in Leipzig, she trained at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn" under Helga Forner and completed two degrees there with distinction. She has taken leading roles in Handel operas such as Alcina, Deidamia, and Rodelinda, alongside Mozart characters that include Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Additional portrayals encompass Laodice in Alessandro Scarlatti’s Mitridate Eupatore and Rosalinde in Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. In 2000 she sang Cinzia at the Schwetzingen Festival during the revival of Legrenzi’s three-act opera La divisione del mondo. Her stage appearances have taken her to the Staatsoper Stuttgart, the Bonn Opera, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. Festival engagements include Bachfest Leipzig, Bachfest Bonn, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival, Festa de Musica in Lisbon, Ruhrtriennale, Triennale di Colonia, Prague Autumn, and Resonanzen Vienna. Concert collaborations feature the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Venice Baroque Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Il Complesso Barocco, and the Flanders Symphony Orchestra. Her recordings appear on Sony Classical, RCA Red Seal, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Archiv Produktion, and Capriccio Records, among additional labels.
