Biography
The late 2000s brought an electrifying and organic presence to Berlin’s house and techno landscape through the masked and enigmatic dance duo the Snuff Crew, who relied on their Roland TR-707 drum machine. Shaped by the golden era of Chicago house and Traxx as well as Italo and acid house, the pair joined Kikumoto Allstars, KiNK, Neville Watson, and Andreas Gehm as part of a fresh wave of producers looking back to late-’80s and early-’90s house culture. Their exhilarating take on old-school jackin’ house first gained attention in 2008 via the 12" single God, issued on Marco Passarani’s Nature label, after which they paid tribute to the legendary and internationally renowned nightclub Berghain. Two further outings appeared on Playhouse and Hour House Is Your Rush before the duo settled at DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo Records in 2009. That year’s self-titled debut album delivered dark, acid-soaked basement sounds that recalled the work of early pioneers Mike Dunn, Chip E., Adonis, and Jesse Saunders. In 2010 Snuff Crew followed with their second album, Jack 2.
