Biography
Soma Sonic emerged from the vision of Ontario siblings Dom and France—full names Dominic and Francois Paterson—who called Petersberg home. Their music blended the sleek textures of trip-hop with the atmospheric haze of down-tempo electronica. Earlier the pair had joined forces on the trance and techno outfit ADSR, where Dom performed as a core member between 1993 and 1995 while France oversaw operations remotely from New York City, where he worked as a fashion stylist and art director. By 1996 the brothers committed to Soma Sonic as their primary focus and began shaping the recordings that would form the album Future. First issued on the siblings’ own Subsonic Recordings imprint, the project later caught the attention of Abstrakt Reality, which released it in 1999. Serving as an elegant entry point to the duo’s aesthetic, the record also showcases vocal performances by Katalin Kiss and Amanda Weiss.
