Originating from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, soul singer Spanky Wilson acquired her childhood nickname after repeated spankings from her father for misbehavior. She entered the music world in the late 1960s through big-band recordings before relocating to Paris in 1985 to sustain her professional path. Partnerships with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Lalo Schifrin, Marvin Gaye, Willie Bobo, and Sammy Davis, Jr., combined with her solo output, established her as a worldwide DJ favorite, notably in England. There, musician and producer Will Holland (Quantic, Quantic Soul Orchestra) conducted an extended search for the artist, who had settled in Los Angeles in 2000. Holland located Wilson in 2004, resulting in two joint tracks on Quantic’s Mishaps Happening. The collaboration expanded into the full-length album I’m Thankful by Wilson and QSO, issued in 2006 on Ubiquity.
