Spod functions simultaneously as the moniker for both a musical collective and its principal performer, an Australian whose greasy exuberance channels the spirit of Har Mar Superstar while centering on sex, scorpions, and proclamations of awesomeness. Exposure to the 2 Live Crew song "We Want Some Pussy" during a childhood ride on a schoolbus left an indelible mark that prompted Spod the individual to debut with the 2003 album Taste the Radness, issued on Shock Records. Its fusion of electroclash, rock, and juvenilia connected with listeners through the chaotic vitality of live performances that included the group's other members: Krylon and A-Blade, who supply backup vocals while also serving as dancers and choreographers under the shared name "Scorpionz of Sex," along with guitarist and drummer Andy Clockwise. The 2004 Big Day Out festival featured Spod on its bill, and a partnership with Regurgitator produced joint shows presented under the ReSPODutator banner, including a track captured as part of the Band in the Bubble television series. Spod additionally laid down the EP Eternal Championz inside the residence of Regurgitator's Quan Yeomans. A second alliance with Yeomans in 2007 yielded the hip-hop duo Blox. The year 2008 brought another EP from Spod the band, the limited vinyl-only Aminals, which included their rendition of "We Want Some Pussy."
