Biography
Pianist Stanislav Khristenko earned recognition as one of the globe's most decorated competition participants in the opening phase of his professional path. After establishing residence in the United States, he joined the roster of the Steinway & Sons imprint.
Born on May 25, 1984, in Kharkov (now Kharkiv), Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union, Khristenko commenced piano instruction at age seven. Even during his teenage years he collected honors, securing fourth prize at the Ettlingen International Piano Competition for young pianists in Germany in 1998 before claiming first prize at the Kosice International Piano Competition in Slovakia the next year. Following studies at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, he resumed accumulating victories, frequently claiming multiple titles within a single calendar year. A notable benchmark arrived at the 2005 Cleveland International Piano Competition, where third prize brought American visibility and additional accolades. He later enrolled at the Cleveland Institute of Music to work with Sergei Babayan, completing an Artist Certificate there in 2010. In 2013 he captured first prizes at both the Cleveland International Piano Competition and the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Spain. Across his career he has prevailed in 25 distinct contests spanning 10 countries. Appearances include engagements with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Phoenix Symphony, and the Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, along with recitals at Carnegie Hall, the Schubertsaal in Vienna, and the Phillips Collection in Washington.
Khristenko issued his first recording in 2012 on the Oehms label, an album devoted to piano works by Ernst Krenek. He transferred to the U.S.-based Steinway & Sons imprint in 2014 with the release Fantasies and received a permanent roster position the subsequent year. In 2019 he issued a recording of Prokofiev's own transcription of selections from his ballet Romeo and Juliet.
