Biography
Originating in Baltimore, Maryland, the buoyant indie pop group Sun Club applied a vibrant, punk-inflected twist to bright, melodic pop. As self-taught players, Shane McCord, his sibling Devin McCord, and their neighbor Mikey Powers began composing and performing together during their teenage years, cycling through numerous lineup variations and genre experiments. Their sound solidified once multi-instrumentalist Kory Johnson entered the fold in 2010, followed by the arrival of bassist Adam Shane in 2012, after which the five-piece advanced to club dates and opening slots alongside acts such as Alvvays and Fidlar. In 2014 the band issued the EP Dad Claps at the Mom Prom. The spirited full-length The Dongo Durango came next, captured in a single live studio session under producer Steve Wright and issued by ATO Records in October 2015. Following an extensive touring campaign behind the album, and with assurances that each member would pursue additional projects, Sun Club disbanded in 2017 after two final performances held that May in Baltimore and D.C.
