Biography
Nashville outfit Sun Seeker fuse loosely psychedelic indie rock with an emphasis on melodic songcraft and touches of 1970s pop alongside classic country-rock. Their performances deliver tight, tuneful execution that offsets the relaxed overall feel, allowing each track space to expand. The group reached a wider audience via the 2017 EP Biddeford, whereas the 2021 album A Sunrise in a Basement introduced greater refinement to both production and arrangements.
Three longtime friends who had performed together in shifting lineups since middle school—vocalist and guitarist Alex Benick, bassist Asher Horton, and drummer Ben Parks—formed Sun Seeker in 2013 and issued a five-song demo on their own later that year. Local club audiences quickly embraced their live sets, which in turn drew notice from Jack White’s Nashville-based Third Man Records. The label issued the band’s first release, the February 2016 7-inch coupling “Georgia Dust” with “No One Knows,” pressed on both black and tri-colored vinyl; keyboardist Austin Edwards participated in those sessions. Their debut EP, the five-track Biddeford, followed in summer 2017 and included second guitarist Rodrigo Avendano. Returning to the core trio of Benick, Horton, and Parks, the musicians began tracking their first full-length in the opening months of 2020, with Misra Records issuing A Sunrise in a Basement in June 2021.
