Superblue, born Austin Lyons, rose to prominence among Trinidad's leading vocalists through an upbeat musical outlook, soca grooves built for dancing, and sharply witty lyrics laced with double meanings. Frequent appearances on Trinidad's festival stages allowed him to rule the respected Road March contests across the 1990s, claiming outright wins in 1994, 1996, and 1998 while sharing the 1997 title with Robbie McIntosh. Although his albums focus chiefly on original material, Superblue has also released distinctive covers of well-known songs such as the Bee Gees' "To Love Somebody," Shel Silverstein's "Sylvia's Mother," the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand," Eddy Grant's "Walking in Sunshine," and Bob Marley's "Redemption Song," "Shots Called," and "No Woman, No Cry."
