Biography
Originating from Guyana, the compact nation situated on South America’s northern coastline, singer/songwriter Juke Ross delivers music through a dusky, warm vocal tone and an uplifting, contagious sense of positivity. The youngest of fourteen siblings, he first aspired to enter medicine like his mother, a nurse, until songwriting became his central pursuit. While attending medical school he began playing guitar and composing introspective, emotionally grounded folk-pop material. One early composition, the breezy “Colour Me,” steadily accumulated streams on digital platforms. Before long he secured a recording contract with Republic Records in the U.S. After relocating to New York he started laying down new tracks, among them the 2017 single “Shadows in the Dark.” Both that song and “Colour Me” appeared on his debut EP, Grey, released later the same year. Several singles followed in 2018, most notably the gentle acoustic pop number “Hey Lil’ Mama.” Tracks issued in 2019 such as “Burned by the Love” and “Wasted Time” shifted toward more polished, pop-oriented arrangements and were collected on the Wasted Time EP. His full-length release, Chapter 2, surfaced in 2020.
