Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter JP Saxe crafts yearning pop that draws on soulful R&B traditions. Wider recognition arrived via his Grammy-nominated 2019 single “If the World Was Ending,” taken from the Hold It Together EP. Building on that momentum, he issued his first full-length album, Dangerous Levels of Introspection, in 2021; the set earned gold certification in his native Canada. Over the following two years he issued further singles that resonated with listeners, among them “I Don’t Miss You” and the Camilo collaboration “Moderación.”

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Saxe came from an artistic household as the grandson of the award-winning Hungarian-born cellist Janos Starker. Following his grandfather’s example, he took up the cello during his teenage years. Exposure to jazz and R&B prompted a shift to piano and guitar, after which he began composing original material. In his twenties he performed regularly around Toronto while sharing his songs online, eventually attracting producers based in California who offered him studio time—an opportunity that led him to relocate to Los Angeles.

His first single, “Changed,” appeared in 2017 and was followed by “Anybody Else.” The track “The Few Things” surfaced in 2018, the same year he released the EP Both Can Be True: Part 1. Additional releases included the 2019 song “If the World Was Ending,” produced by Finneas and featuring Julia Michaels. Placed on the 2020 EP Hold It Together, the single entered the Billboard Hot 100 and received a Grammy Award nomination for Song of the Year. Saxe’s debut full-length, Dangerous Levels of Introspection, arrived in 2021 and included a guest turn from Maren Morris. Early 2022 brought a stripped-down collection of its material under the title Dangerous Levels of Introspection [Stripped], after which he issued the singles “When You Think of Me” and “The Good Parts.” Through the first half of 2023 he continued releasing new songs at a steady pace, including “I Don’t Miss You,” the Camilo collaboration “Moderación,” and “Everything Ends,” which featured Lizzy McAlpine and Tiny Habits.
