Despite their moniker, the New Jersey-based trio A R I Z O N A never originated in the Southwest. Guitarist Nathan Esquite, vocalist Zachary Charles, and keyboardist David Labuguen crossed paths in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music and Emerson College. Once they returned to their home state, the musicians began rehearsing together and shaped an icy, stylish electro-pop sound. Atlantic Records signed the group at the close of 2015; while laying down tracks for their debut throughout 2016, they issued the singles “Let Me Touch Your Fire,” “I Was Wrong,” and “Oceans Away.” GALLERY reached listeners in spring 2017. The following year brought their second album, No One Saw the Hot Air Balloon Show, along with the independent single “What She Wants.” In 2019 they delivered further tracks, among them a featured appearance on Avicii’s “Hold the Line” and their own “Nostalgic,” before releasing ASYLUM that October.

The early 2020s found A R I Z O N A comparatively quiet, surfacing only for the 2021 Louis the Child single “So What” and the 2022 Matoma collaboration “Heart So Big.” They resurfaced fully in 2023 with a self-titled album fronted by the singles “Moving On,” “Dark Skies,” and “Die for a Night.”
