Hailing from Arizona, American pop artist and tunesmith Alec Benjamin achieved worldwide recognition in the latter half of the 2010s through his multi-platinum single "Let Me Down Slowly." He issued his opening full-length album, These Two Windows, in 2020, then followed with Un)commentary two years afterward. Further catalog growth arrived via 12 Notes in 2024.

A Phoenix native, the vocalist and guitarist unveiled his debut EP, America, in 2013. While enrolled at the University of Southern California, he captured his self-released first single, "Paper Crown," inside his dorm room. A succession of tracks emerged from him in 2016, among them "The Water Fountain," "End of the Summer," and "I Built a Friend," each showcasing his polished, youthful voice alongside keyboard-driven production. That year also saw the Jon Bellion collaboration "New York Soul, Pt. 2" land on Bellion's album The Human Condition. The Alessia Cara-assisted single "Let Me Down Slowly" surfaced in 2018, preceding the full-length mixtape Narrated for You later the same year. An appearance performing the song on The Late Late Show with James Corden in January 2019 lifted his visibility, after which a consistent flow of singles preceded the proper arrival of his 2020 debut album, These Two Windows. The standalone cut "The Way You Felt" followed in early 2021, and several months later he issued a Mandarin-language rendition titled "Ni De Mu Guang." The 2022 singles "Shadow of Mine" and "Speakers" preceded his second album, Un)commentary, which contained the modest success "Devil Doesn't Bargain." Across the subsequent two years he assembled further material such as "Different Kind of Beautiful," "I Sent My Therapist to Therapy," and "Pick Me" ahead of the May 2024 release of 12 Notes, an expanded edition of which added four extra tracks four months afterward.
