Nate Feuerstein, who records as NF, stands out as both a rapper and composer whose unfiltered feelings and direct songwriting propelled him to multi-platinum status. After his 2015 project Mansion and the 2016 follow-up Therapy Session each claimed the top spot on the Christian charts, his real breakthrough arrived in 2017 when the Top 20 single “Let You Down” carried the album Perception to number one on the Billboard 200 and double-platinum certification. Success persisted through the second platinum-selling Billboard 200 chart-topper The Search in 2019, the Top Five mixtape Clouds in 2021, and the uplifting 2023 release Hope.

Born in Gladwin, Michigan, in 1991, Feuerstein navigated a childhood defined by hardship: his parents divorced, his mother’s boyfriend subjected him to physical abuse, and his mother passed away. Music offered an outlet, leading him to record songs on a karaoke machine by routing instrumentals through one microphone and his own raps through the other. In 2010 he independently issued his first album, Moments, which drew interest from Xist Music; the label signed him in 2012, the same period in which he adopted the stage name NF. Although the label announced an EP that year, it never materialized, and NF parted ways with Xist.

Over the next two years he searched for another label while collaborating in the studio with local producer Tommee Profitt, ultimately issuing the track “Wake Up.” That single paved the way for a self-titled EP released late in the summer of 2014, which contained a Manny Marroquin remix of “Wake Up.” His debut full-length Mansion appeared in early 2015, reaching number 62 on the Billboard 200 and topping the Christian chart. The fittingly named Therapy Session arrived in 2016, leading both the Rap and Christian charts while nearly entering the overall Top Ten.

The following summer brought the singles “Outro” and “Green Lights,” both featured on NF’s third studio album Perception, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in October. Its biggest success proved to be the third single, radio staple “Let You Down,” which led the U.S. Christian Songs chart and peaked just outside the Hot 100 Top Ten. While that track continued receiving airplay and the additional single “Lie” earned platinum status, NF unveiled “The Search,” the lead single from the 2019 album of the same name, which arrived that July. Featuring guest Sasha Sloan on “Only,” the emotive set became his second consecutive chart-topper.

In 2020 NF released the non-album track “Chasing_(Demo),” which included Australian fan Mikayla Sippel, followed by “Paid My Dues,” later appearing alongside the title track on the 2021 mixtape Clouds that reached number three on the Billboard 200. February 2023 saw the arrival of the life-affirming title song from his fifth studio effort, Hope. Released in April 2023, the album contained collaborations with Cordae on “Careful” and Julia Michaels on “Gone.”
