Bringing a clever and vibrant style to rap with an off-kilter take on hip-hop, Aminé first rose to prominence via the multi-platinum “Caroline,” a number 11 pop single from 2016. Momentum carried forward through the gold-certified full-length Good for You in 2017 and the ONEPOINTFIVE mixtape of 2018, whose lead track “Reel It In” became his second multi-platinum hit while reflecting the pressures of sudden fame. His second studio album, Limbo, reached the Billboard 200’s Top 20 upon release in 2020 and was succeeded the next year by the TWOPOINTFIVE mixtape. In the interval between those projects, a guest turn on Disclosure’s “My High” earned Aminé a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. Longtime partnership with producer Kaytranada culminated in the 2023 album Kaytraminé, after which Aminé issued the short EP .mp3s in 2024.

Born Adam Aminé Daniel in Portland, Oregon, he experimented with rapping during high school yet treated the pursuit casually until graduation. Early effort Odyssey to Me appeared in 2014 and was soon disowned by the artist, who found a sharper identity on the following year’s Calling Brio. That set incorporated contributions from Kaytranada, Tek.Lun, and Portland-area peer Pasqué, alongside Aminé’s own skewed trap and tribal beats.

After signing with Republic, he unveiled his major-label bow “Caroline” in 2016, a playful Pasqué collaboration that climbed to number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 by January. Months later, shortly after XXL named him to its 2017 Freshman Class, Good for You arrived with guest spots from Charlie Wilson, Ty Dolla $ign, Offset, and Kehlani; the album debuted at number 31 on the Billboard 200 and later achieved gold status. “Campfire,” a 2018 collaboration with Injury Reserve, preceded ONEPOINTFIVE by four months, and the project’s introspective tone addressed the complications of newfound celebrity. Aminé wrapped the decade with the reflective single “Places + Faces.”

“Shimmy” served as the lead single for Limbo, which surfaced in August 2020 featuring Charlie Wilson, Vince Staples, and Young Thug and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard 200. Disclosure’s “My High” arrived around the same period and secured the Grammy nod in the Best Dance Recording category. The 2021 mixtape TWOPOINTFIVE, introduced by the hyperpop-tinged “Charmander,” gave way to the full-length Kaytraminé with Kaytranada in 2023. Guest verses on 2024 tracks by RiTchie and Cochise preceded the release of .mp3s, an EP that includes appearances by Smino and Cardo Got Wings.
