Jean Deaux has built a reputation around atmospheric, emotionally resonant slow jams without fitting neatly into any single category. Emerging as a singer, rapper, and songwriter in the mid-2010s, she issued material spanning R&B-leaning pop and understated house while contributing to an array of genre-blending tracks as a guest artist, notably on fellow Chicago native Saba’s “Photosynthesis” (2016). Her own releases, beginning with the debut Krash (2018) and continuing through Most Wanted (2021, with a deluxe edition arriving in 2022), have drawn notable appearances from Kari Faux, Kehlani, and Masego. Across these projects she has broadened her sonic palette while attracting listeners drawn to R&B that pushes forward yet remains anchored in soul traditions.

Before focusing on music, the Chicago native pursued acting and poetry, gaining traction in the early 2010s through streaming uploads and guest spots alongside Isaiah Rashad, Mick Jenkins, Saba, Mykki Blanco, and Smino. Those efforts briefly secured major-label support via Interscope through Downtown Records, under which she released the spaced-out house cut “Father Time” in 2017. Later that year she returned to independent output with “Wikipedia,” a dreamy track positioned somewhere between Little Dragon and Erykah Badu. Output remained steady in 2018, highlighted by several singles including “Energy” and the full-length Krash, which featured Ravyn Lenae and Kari Faux.

She maintained a pattern of concise annual releases in the years that followed. The 2019 EP Empathy included the understated yet assertive “Anytime,” featuring Kehlani and ROMderful, while “Life Lines” paired her with Terrace Martin and Duckwrth. Watch This arrived in 2020 and stood out for “Moody!,” a buoyant collaboration with Saba. Most Wanted entered the discography in 2021, strengthened by “ChopNScrew” with Ambré and “Nothin 2 Do (Wit Me),” which featured Destin Conrad and Uno Hype. A deluxe edition followed in 2022, adding the Masego-assisted “Ease Up.”
