Biography
Rapper Domo Genesis began as one of Odd Future’s most lighthearted MCs yet shifted toward a far more introspective approach once he stepped out on his own. His solo work pairs reflective lyricism with a rapid, insistent delivery shaped by Nas, Mobb Deep, MF Doom, and Wiz Khalifa. Alongside an extensive run of mixtapes, he issued his first proper studio album, Genesis, in 2016.
Born Domonique Cole in Inglewood, California, he had long been close with Odd Future founder Tyler, the Creator before officially entering the collective in 2009. His opening solo mixtape, Rolling Papers, surfaced in 2010, with Under the Influence following in 2011. The next year he paired with Wiz Khalifa on the single “Ground Up,” while California medical-marijuana outlets started carrying his signature strain, Domo OG. In 2013 he united with fellow Odd Future members Hodgy Beats and Left Brain to form the side project MellowHigh, whose self-titled debut album arrived that same year.
After stepping away for several years to process the loss of his uncle and aunt, Domo resumed his solo path with the autobiographical full-length Genesis in 2016. The Red Corolla mixtape followed the subsequent year and was accompanied by DJ Candlestick’s chopped-and-screwed counterpart, Purple Corolla. In 2018 he released Aren’t U Glad You’re U?, then later that year dropped the EP Facade Records, which included appearances by Buddy, IDK, Chip tha Ripper, and Cozz.
