Dreamville affiliate Cozz brings a notably personal approach to West Coast rap, offering candid and at times emotionally exposed confessions through versatile flows that shift between rapid complexity and measured restraint. Following his 2018 album Effected, Cozz stepped away briefly before resurfacing in 2021 via the single "Fortunate."

Cody Osagie, born in South Central Los Angeles in 1994, waited until early 2013 to begin rapping, at which point his straightforward approach aligned with the growing appeal of reality rap. Early the next year, the Los Angeles native posted the introspective track "Dreams," which caught the attention of J. Cole and led to Cozz’s signing with the Interscope-backed Dreamville label. That song appeared on his 2014 debut Cozz & Effect, a project that included the Meez-produced single "Cody Macc" and peaked at number 17 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart. Before issuing the early-2016 mixtape Nothin Personal—on which Meez handled production or co-production for every cut—Cozz joined a Dreamville package tour and contributed to the imprint’s Revenge of the Dreamers, Vol. 2. After guest spots alongside Bas, Ari Lennox, and other labelmates, he reclaimed the spotlight in 2018 with the singles "Questions" and the Curren$y-assisted "Badu," plus the full-length Effected and the DJ Megan Ryte collaboration Aftermath of My Dreams. Cozz maintained a lower profile over the ensuing years, appearing on select tracks from the 2019 Dreamville compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III and its expanded edition issued the following year, before delivering his own new single "Fortunate" in 2021.
