Nyck Caution

Brooklyn rapper Nyck Caution upheld East Coast hip-hop's golden-era traditions through mellow production and layered, narrative-driven rhymes while working both solo and within the Pro Era collective as well as Beast Coast. The 2021 album Anywhere But Here marked the peak of his beat-making and autobiographical writing alike.

Born Jesse Cordasco in Brooklyn in 1994, he began making music alongside childhood friend Capital STEEZ and adopted the name Nyck Caution—short for "New York City Kid"—once he started issuing his own material. Following the release of his debut mixtape The Pursuit, Vol. 1, he joined Pro Era, the rap collective fronted by Joey Bada$$. Two further mixtapes arrived in 2016: Disguise the Limit and the collaborative Nyck @ Knight with fellow Pro Era member Kirk Knight. In 2019 he appeared on several tracks from the Beast Coast album Escape from New York; the supergroup uniting artists from Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, and the Underachievers had existed since 2012 yet released studio material only gradually. Guest appearances on Anywhere But Here came from GASHI, Denzel Curry, Kota the Friend, and additional artists.
