Witt Lowry earned a graphic design diploma yet discovered his genuine calling only after committing to rap as a profession. Born Mark Laurence Richard, Jr., he fashioned his stage name by merging “witty” with a playful alteration of his middle name, a choice reflected in the brisk wordplay and inventive phrasing that run through his verses. His rapid, frenetic cadence echoed the raw, juvenile style Eminem displayed in his earliest recordings, while an underlying optimism and independent, self-reliant ethos aligned his work with Macklemore’s approach. Delivering gritty, urgent, and intensely confessional lines, Lowry unleashed sharp rhymes meant to offer encouragement to listeners, personal catharsis for himself, and occasional juvenile bravado. His initial mixtape, Headphone Hero, preceded the 2013 release Kindest Regards; both projects were distributed at no cost via social media. The 2015 official debut album Dreaming with Our Eyes Open centered on themes of everyday existence and attainable aspirations. Following promotional tours, he returned to the studio for the 2017 follow-up I Could Not Plan This, which included a guest appearance by Dia Frampton on “Lately” and entered the Billboard 200. In 2018 he issued the standalone tracks “Piece of Mind 4” and “Into Your Arms,” then unveiled “Hurt” featuring Deion Reverie the next year as part of Nevers Road. That album, less rooted in trap production than its predecessor, again showcased Frampton alongside Dan Haynes and Whatever We Are, and it entered the Billboard 200’s Top 100 upon arrival.
