Emerging from Columbus, Ohio, Caamp craft indie folk rooted in acoustic guitar and banjo, balancing spare arrangements with sincere performances. Boyhood companions Evan Westfall and Taylor Meier established the project, later recruiting bassist Matt Vinson, whose first recorded contribution appeared on the Billboard-charting 2019 sophomore album By & By. Three years afterward the trio delivered their third full-length, Lavender Days, which climbed into the upper reaches of the Billboard pop chart.

Westfall on banjo and Meier handling lead vocals and guitar formed their partnership in the Columbus suburb of Upper Arlington, though the pair did not begin composing and performing together until 2012. They settled on the name Caamp in 2015 and issued their self-produced, self-titled debut LP the following year, which rapidly accumulated streams across digital platforms. Subsequent singles such as “Hey Joe,” “Common Man,” and “26” helped solidify a loyal audience whose cumulative plays reached the millions. In early 2018 Westfall and Meier issued the Boys (Side A) EP, introducing electric guitar and a fuller sonic palette on several tracks; the companion Boys (Side B) EP arrived several months later.

Vinson joined as the third member prior to the sessions for By & By, which Mom + Pop Music released in July 2019 and which topped the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. The next year brought the tracks “Fall, Fall, Fall” and the AAA-charting “Officer of Love,” while 2021 saw the release of the reflective single “Square One.” Caamp opened 2022 with “Believe,” a warm and confident cut that reached number one on both the triple-A and Americana charts. The song featured on Lavender Days, the band’s third studio album, which included appearances by Waxahatchee and Nathaniel Rateliff and ultimately peaked at number 83 on the Billboard 200.
