Biography
Renowned across Europe and within his native Turkey, dance-pop composer Tarkan fuses contemporary rhythms with Middle Eastern melodies and arrangements. Although already established in the Turkish dance scene for several years beforehand, his 1999 single "Simarik" delivered instant acclaim in European clubs and prompted broader distribution of the self-titled album issued that same year. The album drew on material from two prior releases that had been available only in Turkey, extending the single’s impact; Universal Music Latino issued it stateside in mid-2000.
