Hailing from Ontario as the offspring of a local songwriter, Richard and Brian Cooper spent the closing years of the 1960s performing with multiple ensembles before establishing their own band in 1971. By 1974 they had issued a trio of singles without achieving any chart success, a situation that changed upon inking a deal with Polydor that year, which led to the release of "Finally with You." During this period the lineup expanded to incorporate guitarist Darryl Alguire, drummer Glenn Bell, vocalist and guitarist Terry King, vocalist Charles Robertson, along with keyboardist Al Serwa. Upon affiliating with Capricorn Records stateside, the Cooper Brothers put out well-received tracks such as "Rock and Roll Cowboys," "The Dream Never Dies," "Show Some Emotion," and "I'll Know Her When I See Her." Among their long-play releases were the 1978 self-titled album and Pitfalls of the Ballroom from 1979. With the 1980 demise of Capricorn, the Cooper Brothers disbanded shortly thereafter, although Brian Cooper and Terry King later regrouped as part of the three-piece Cooper, King and Emmerson.
