Biography
The Damned Things drew their moniker from a line in Ram Jam's 1977 rendition of "Black Betty." This hard-rock supergroup, assembled from players associated with Anthrax, Fall Out Boy, Alkaline Trio, and Every Time I Die, surfaced in 2010 with the chart-topping Ironiclast, a record that fused burly, riff-driven classic rock with aggressive heavy metal.
The project originated in 2009 when Fall Out Boy lead guitarist Joe Trohman and Anthrax guitarist/lead vocalist Scott Ian—songwriting partners since 2008—decided to form a band. Their ranks soon grew to encompass Every Time I Die vocalist Keith Buckley, Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano, Every Time I Die bassist Josh Newton, and Fall Out Boy drummer Andy Hurley. Blending Anthrax's potent riffing with Fall Out Boy's propulsive, melody-rich pop sensibility, the ensemble produced an infectious thrash/classic-rock hybrid. Issued on Mercury Records in 2010, their debut album Ironiclast reached number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
Preoccupied with commitments to their primary bands, the Damned Things delayed their return to the studio until 2019, when they unveiled the follow-up High Crimes. The sophomore release featured a revised lineup of Ian, Trohman, Buckley, Hurley, and Alkaline Trio bassist Dan Andriano.
