The Deep

Little is known about this Philadelphia ensemble, which appears to have been steered by Rusty Evans while featuring David Bromberg in an undefined capacity. Scant liner notes describe the resulting album as the product of after-hours improvisational marathons at Cameo-Parkway studios. Positioned between the Seeds, the 13th Floor Elevators, and Kim Fowley, the group delivered sparsely recorded, whimsical psychedelia laced with playful nonsense. Though the project remained largely frivolous, it contained flashes of interest and displayed a stronger melodic sensibility than either Kim Fowley or the Seeds. ~ Richie Unterberger
