Emerging from the coastal haven of Byron Bay, Australia, in the middle of the 2010s, the Babe Rainbow presented a gentler, more flower-powered strain of neo-psychedelia than peers such as King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard or Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. International attention arrived through 30th Century Records, after which the group issued a series of well-received albums, among them Double Rainbow in 2018 and Changing Colours in 2021.

Distinct from the Canadian electronic producer who shares the name, the Babe Rainbow debuted in 2015 via a self-titled EP that included cosmic, sixties-tinged tracks such as "Ash May & Dr. Love Wisdom" alongside the genial "Secret Enchanted Broccoli Forest." Following their signing to Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records, co-founders Angus Dowling on vocals and drums and Jack “Cool-Breeze” Crowther on guitar, joined by Venezuelan newcomer Lu-Lu-Felix Domingo on bass, joined West Coast psych outfit the Allah-Las for a U.S. tour. Back in Byron Bay they collaborated with Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard on their self-titled debut album, released in summer 2017. Double Rainbow followed the next year in a comparable vein and entered the ARIA Albums Chart at number 18. The Babes maintained momentum in 2019 with Today, their third studio album in three years, before releasing Changing Colours in 2021.
