Biography
In the Akabane area of Tokyo, three high-school companions—Hiroji Miyamoto, Toshi Ishimori, and Yoshi Tominaga—laid the groundwork for Elephant Kashimashi back in 1981. After recruiting Seiji Takamidori, a shared contact, to handle bass duties, the group cultivated local support within the city yet remained largely overlooked prior to issuing Like a Moon of Tonight. Contributing to the forefront of Japan's emerging alternative pop and rock movement, Ele-Kashi released a steady stream of albums and singles that frequently appeared on charts, fostering dedicated fans through their rejection of the excessively sweet style prevalent in much J-pop material. By 2008, the band returned to the Oricon rankings via the track "Sakura No Hana, Maiagaru Michi Wo."
