Biography
Emerging alongside the White Stripes within Detroit’s late-’90s garage-rock surge, the Go came together in 1998. Childhood friends vocalist Bobby Harlow, guitarist John Krautner, and drummer Mark Fellis were joined by guitarist Steve Nawara and bassist Dave Buick, rounding out the lineup that soon began performing throughout the Detroit area. An opening date for fellow Detroiters ? & the Mysterians drew the notice of Sub Pop, which promptly signed the group and released its debut album, Whatcha Doin’, in 1999. With Jack White contributing guitar and vocals, the record fused an aggressive, noisy approach with numerous nods to R&B and soul, resulting in a playful, stylish, and unruly listening experience. A self-titled album followed in fall 2003 on the British imprint Lizard King, and the Go returned in April 2007 with Howl on the Haunted Beat You Ride.
