Biography
Dieter Sermeus, frontman and chief songwriter for the Belgian indie pop outfit Orange, Black, first conceived The Go Find as a personal electronic experiment. Based in Sermeus’s hometown of Antwerp, Orange, Black issued three albums from 1997 to 2002 while supporting visiting acts such as Pavement and Stereolab on Belgian club dates. Sermeus soon began crafting homemade electronica and recruited production assistance from fellow Morr Music artist Arne Van Petegem, who records solo under the name Styrofoam. Their joint work surfaced in 2004 as the album Miami, which critics likened to a Belgian counterpart of the Postal Service. Sermeus then expanded The Go Find into a live ensemble by adding drummer and guitarist Tim Coenen, guitarist and keyboardist Nico Jacobs, and keyboardist Joris Calluwaerts. This configuration recorded the band’s second release, 2007’s Stars on the Wall, whose sound drew from Radiohead, France’s Phoenix, labelmates the Notwist, and Jim O’Rourke’s pop work. Sermeus later augmented the group with bassist Peter Pask and Bob Hermans, whom the band lists simply under “sound.” The Go Find delivered its third album, Everybody Knows It’s Gonna Happen Only Not Tonight, in early 2010. Maintaining their pattern of roughly triennial releases, the quartet issued the synth-pop-leaning Brand New Love in early 2014.
